- Sitting in your car...
If you’ve had a skin consultation with me at Skin by Leanne Moss in Ipswich , you’ll know exactly what the above title means. We always talk about your skin journey — and how it’s not a quick fix or overnight miracle. Skincare is a long-term commitment, and together we take it step by step. Understanding Your Skin Journey In those first few weeks, I often ask you to imagine that you’ve just got into your car and put your seatbelt on. You haven’t even pulled out of your driveway yet — we’re simply sitting in your car, ready to begin. The truth is, your skin journey has no final destination. You’ll never stop looking after your skin — and that’s a good thing. For some, the journey feels smooth with beautiful views along the way. For others, there can be bumps, setbacks, or even moments that feel like you’re going backwards. When this happens, I love to share words from one of my skin heroes, Robyn McAlpine , who perfectly explains what’s going on when things feel a little rocky. If you’ve made the switch to corneotherapy and it’s not as smooth sailing as you’d hoped, have no fear, this is the perfect read for you. If you’ve experienced dryness, flakiness, purging, more congestion than usual, pimples feeling tight and just overall not great, you could be going through a transition phase. The Transition Phase Explained For some people, the transition onto dermaviduals can feel like a step backwards before we move forwards, and this is for very good reason. Our focus as Corneotherapists is to help your skin return to its perfect state of homeostasis. Homeostasis is when your skin is functioning at its baseline best. ‘Living its best life,’ so to speak. It has created its own perfect environment in which to flourish, and this is exactly when your skin will be at its healthiest, most youthful, and radiant. Often, skin products we’ve used, treatments we’ve had, or the way we have or haven’t cared for our skin will disrupt this cellular equilibrium. This disruption changes how our skin works because it is left trying to do its very best under the circumstances. But this means for weeks, months, sometimes years, our skin has been working in a dysfunctional way. The transition onto a corneotherapeutic range like dermaviduals is aimed at restoring your skin’s most healthy state of being. To undo the dysfunction and support our skin back to optimal function. This means your skin might feel like it’s completely falling apart, but in fact, it’s falling into place! So how long can this transition take? That’s like asking how long is a piece of string. But that doesn’t really help you when you’re feeling like you’ve made a huge mistake in stepping into this new skincare journey. Much like an unhealthy body, one gym session and a week of eating a nutritionally rich diet isn’t going to undo years of harmful living. It can take weeks to months to transform into the healthiest version of you. Your skin is the same, and it is going to depend on several things. Factors Influencing Your Skin Transition Your Chemistry History The cocktail of ingredients that have been applied to your skin over the last few years doesn’t always just wash down the shower drain at the end of each day. Ingredients like silicones, binding agents, and emulsifiers can bind themselves to your skin and sneakily embed themselves between your cells. This isn’t something you can easily see or feel, and it isn’t something your skin will instantly react to. It’s like a strangler vine on a host tree. The tree will continue to grow, but the vine will slowly change the way that tree is growing. These ingredients interfere with the way our skin works. When you begin working to create a healthy skin cell turnover and support the natural keratinocyte lifecycle, using physiological skincare that is designed to work below the skin's surface, the non-physiological ingredients get mixed up with the good things going in. They end up where they don’t belong, and your skin doesn’t like it. What you’ve previously used, how much, and for how long, coupled with the condition of your skin to begin with, will determine if and how your skin will be impacted by this chemical exchange. Your Skin's Current State of Health Where you’ve been and where you’ve come from can also influence this transition phase. If you’ve used skincare that has worn down your natural barrier and your skin's lines of defence, it is going to be quite vulnerable. Corneotherapy is about restoring this balance, and it sometimes can take a little while to do this. It’s like a house that has been falling down and needs some support. Sure, a coat of paint will make it look nice for a while, but for true restoration, the builders need to go in and rebuild foundations. If you’ve ever lived through a house renovation, you know it’s messy. Things don’t always run smoothly, and there are often a few glitches along the way. Same with skin. We’re working on the framework, not just the superficial stuff, and that isn’t always pretty. Internal Deficiencies and Your Body's Health Much like your current state of health, our skin reflects this. Our body's hydration, nutrition, health, mental wellbeing, and self-love will all impact this phase and how our cells behave. This is why I will always partner with a naturopath, doctor, or even guide you to emotional support if there are things internally that impact you externally. You are an intricate patchwork of complexities, and we cannot separate our skin's function from that. We’re Taking Away Its “False” Moisture For years, you may have been using ingredients that strip the oils and add silicones to give that smooth, hydrated, moisturised feel. It’s like back in the 90s when they took fat out of food and added sugar in the name of “healthy.” Your skin hasn’t had to rely on producing its own natural moisturising factors and balancing its own hydration. In fact, it may well have given up trying to make them altogether. So in this transition, we’re giving your skin the room to learn to do this again on its own. It’s like you’ve taken away the training wheels, and your child has to learn to balance on their own. It’s a bit rough at first, but you know that you’ve got to let them wobble so that they can learn to balance. We’re doing the same with your skin. We’re Re-Planting the Rainforest Your acne is getting a little (ok… a lot) worse? Acne and your skin's microbiome and bacterial balance are so intricately connected. When we are restoring that environment and the home on which our skin's bacteria live, there can sometimes be a little ‘battle of the species.’ When your skin's natural ecosystem has been depleted, your skin's bacteria is relearning how to live in its own ecosystem. Instead of grappling with an uneasy terrain, we are helping to restore it. Sometimes, the rainforest will run a little wild before it comes back into balance and harmony. So too does your skin. We are covered in gazillions of different bacteria; some of them can go a little rampant while we’re balancing out the natural order of things. This can take time. Your pores are learning to function, your microbiome is repopulating itself, and your skin's biofilm is learning how to make itself. Give it time. It will make you proud! So what to do if this is you? Don’t Be Quick to Quit You’re already halfway across the battlefield; it’s no time to turn back. Talk to your therapist. Communication is key! We’re here to support you through this phase, and know you’re going to come out the other side. Trust the process! Don’t Chop and Change The temptation can be that you need to try something different and that the products you are on just aren’t working for you. They are. Give it time. If you go back to your therapist and they keep suggesting something else or they chop and change your prescription, you could be taking your skin back to square one. I know it’s hard when your skin feels worse than when you started, but changing things up only prolongs this process. Stick to Your Routine While it might not feel like you’re getting anywhere, don’t stop using your products. Talk to your skin therapist. In the rare case there is something off and your skin response is something more reactive, they will be able to guide you. The good news is that if you are experiencing these transition signs, things are on the move, and you are headed in the right direction. It is a temporary part of the process and worth continuing through. Your skin is unique. Your transition will also be unique. You are worth the time it will take to feel confident in your skin. Back to the Studio! (AKA Leanne) I think we can all agree, I couldn’t have written that better myself. It’s such a helpful read, and one I share with all my new clients when they start transitioning onto corneotherapy and Dermaviduals skincare . - Why I Choose Dermaviduals (And Why Your Skin Will Thank You)
If you’ve been in my treatment room before, you’ll know that I don’t do one-size-fits-all skincare. I take the time to understand your skin properly — not just how it looks under a lamp, but how it feels, behaves, and responds in everyday life. That’s why I use Dermaviduals skincare in all my bespoke facials here in Ipswich — it aligns beautifully with my corneotherapy-led approach , supporting your skin barrier instead of working against it. Dermaviduals is not just a skincare range — it’s a completely different way of thinking about your skin. One that supports and strengthens, rather than strips and overwhelms. What Makes Dermaviduals Different? Dermaviduals is based on the principles of Corneotherapy — something I’ve written more about here Understanding the Basics of Corneotherapy: What You Need to Know . Put simply, it’s about protecting and restoring the skin barrier so your skin can function the way it’s meant to. It’s calm, considered, and completely focused on long-term skin health. The products are free from fragrances, preservatives, emulsifiers, silicones, and other common irritants — all the things that can quietly chip away at your skin’s natural defences. And because healthy, well-functioning skin is your best defence against premature ageing , this approach doesn’t just help with sensitivity or inflammation — it also supports smoother, stronger, more resilient skin over time. When your skin barrier is strong, so many skin issues become easier to manage. Redness settles. Breakouts calm. Sensitivity softens. Your skin begins to self-regulate again — which is exactly what we want. Skincare Made For You (Literally) One of the reasons I love working with Dermaviduals is because it allows me to create truly bespoke formulations — just for you. Each cream, serum, or cleanser is blended based on your skin’s exact needs, right here in the clinic. Nothing is pre-made or mass-produced. This is skincare that evolves as your skin does. It’s especially powerful for those of you who’ve felt overwhelmed by products in the past or haven’t known what to trust. We strip everything back, listen to your skin, and build up slowly — in a way that feels safe, supported, and effective. Why I Trust It — And Why I Think You Will Too I’m very selective about what I bring into my treatment space. It has to align with how I work: calm, barrier-focused, results-driven. Dermaviduals ticks every box. I’ve seen the results in clinic time and time again — not just quick glow (although you’ll get that too), but real, lasting changes in how skin feels and functions. So whether you’re already on your skin journey with me, or you’re just discovering what I do, know that every product I use is there for a reason. Thoughtful, targeted, and always chosen with your long-term skin health in mind. The Importance of a Strong Skin Barrier A strong skin barrier is crucial for overall skin health. It acts as a shield, protecting your skin from environmental stressors. When the barrier is compromised, it can lead to various skin concerns. These include dryness, irritation, and even premature aging. By focusing on restoring and maintaining this barrier, we can help your skin thrive. It’s not just about treating symptoms; it’s about addressing the root cause. This holistic approach is what sets Dermaviduals apart. Your Journey to Healthier Skin Starts Here If you’re ready to start, get in touch, book a skin consultation , and begin your journey to the healthiest skin you have ever had. We’ll talk about your skin, your lifestyle, and your current routine — and we’ll start to build a plan that works with your skin, not against it. “I work with clients from across Ipswich and Suffolk who are looking for a calmer, more thoughtful approach to skin.” I don’t do fluff. I don’t do fads. I do skin — gently, thoroughly, and always with care. Leanne x
- Philippa’s Autumn Reset 🍂
How we’re using Dermalux LED phototherapy, Dermaviduals prescriptive skincare, Bare Biology nutrition and faceLITE to get her glow back this season Autumn always feels like the perfect time for a reset, doesn’t it? The busy summer months (and all that sun exposure!) can leave our skin a little tired, dehydrated, and in need of some extra love. This is exactly why I love this season for giving our skin a boost – and that’s exactly what Philippa, one of my lovely long-term clients, has just decided to do. Philippa runs a brilliant local business called Matisa Market , and she’s always been so committed to looking after her skin. She totally gets corneotherapy and is a Dermaviduals devotee – which means she understands that skin health is about more than just what we put on it, but how we look after it day-to-day. Her skin absolutely reflects this – it’s healthy, glowing, and resilient – but even the best skin needs a little post-summer pick-me-up. Skin Health is a Journey If you’ve ever had a consultation with me, you’ll know I talk a lot about your skin journey . Looking after your skin isn’t an overnight fix – it takes time, consistency, and a little patience. In the early days of working together, I often say, “you’ve only just got in the car and put your seatbelt on.” A few weeks later, I might tell you that “you’re now at the end of your road.” Sometimes that journey is straight, sometimes it takes a detour, maybe even a roundabout and back on itself – but we’re always travelling. Philippa’s Autumn Reset is like climbing a mountain in her skin journey – a real push upwards, giving her cells a boost and taking her skin health to the next level. Step One: Dermalux LED Light Therapy We’ve just started a course of five weekly Dermalux treatments to really recharge Philippa’s skin after the summer months. If you’ve never tried Dermalux LED phototherapy in Ipswich , here’s why I recommend it: Stimulates healthy cell renewal Calms redness and inflammation Boosts hydration and radiance Supports overall skin function Stimulates Collagen Production It’s painless, relaxing, and delivers results you can see and feel . Step Two: Adapting Skincare with Dermaviduals One of the things I love about working with Dermaviduals is that it’s a truly prescriptive skincare range – meaning we can adapt it to support your skin through the changing seasons. As the weather cools, our skin often needs a little more protection and nourishment to stay balanced and comfortable. For Philippa, we’ve moved her onto a richer moisturiser to strengthen her skin barrier and prevent seasonal dryness. This ability to tweak and personalise her skincare throughout the year is what keeps her results so consistent – no “one-size-fits-all” products here! Step Three: Home LED Support with faceLITE One of the questions I get asked all the time is: “Which home LED mask should I buy?” There are so many devices out there — some are cheap and just a bunch of coloured lights that look pretty but do very little for the health of your skin cells. I only ever recommend devices that are backed by science and deliver real results. Many years ago, when I worked in a busy high-street beauty salon (you can read about it in my blog post Hello ), we had one of the very first LED devices on the market, made by Omnilux . We were trained by a brilliant lady called Tracy May, and that was the start of my love affair with LED therapy. Fast forward to today, Omnilux are still leaders in LED technology — and they’re the makers of the faceLITE device . I completely trust this device because: The wavelengths are clinically proven to stimulate collagen and improve skin health The science is solid — it’s not just coloured lights, it’s targeted treatment for your skin cells It’s comfortable, easy to use, and fits into a busy lifestyle I often explain it like this: my Dermalux Tri-Wave MD in-clinic device is like a nuclear power station , whereas the faceLITE is more like a battery pack . You can’t compare the power, but the wavelengths are the same — so by combining them, we keep the cells healthy and keep your skin journey moving forward between in-clinic treatments. If you’re going to invest in a piece of homecare kit, this is the one I would choose every time. Step Four: Supporting Skin from Within Because great skin starts on the inside too, we’ve also introduced some incredible Bare Biology supplements into Philippa’s routine. Over the years, I’ve tried a few different supplement brands to see what really works – and I eventually chose to stock and recommend Bare Biology because they offer everything I believe supports healthy, glowing skin. They’re a family-run, UK-owned company, which I love, and their training and support are brilliant and very personal to me. Most importantly, I trust their results – I use all of their products myself (and so does my family!) and they’re so easy to fit into daily life. I feel confident recommending them because I know they deliver real benefits. Here’s what we’ve added for Philippa: Beam & Balance – a vitamin D spray to support immunity and mood during the darker months Fundamental – pure bovine collagen powder to support skin elasticity, hair and nail health Life & Soul – high-strength omega-3 fish oil to calm inflammation and nourish the skin barrier Ready & Rested – magnesium bisglycinate capsules to help the body rest and repair overnight I’m not a nutritionist, but I do understand the vital connection between nutrition and skin health – and I trust Bare Biology as a brand to deliver pure, effective products. By combining these supplements with her prescriptive skincare and professional treatments, we’re supporting her skin at every level – truly working from the inside out . Why Autumn is the Perfect Time for a Skin Reset Autumn is the ideal moment to pause, reset, and prepare your skin for the colder months ahead. Central heating, cooler weather, and less sunlight can all affect our skin health – making hydration, barrier repair, and inflammation control more important than ever. This time of year is like reaching a steep hill on your skin journey – it takes a bit of extra effort, but once you climb it, you get to enjoy the view (and the glow!). The combination of Dermalux, Dermaviduals prescriptive skincare, and targeted nutrition gives your skin exactly what it needs to stay strong, healthy, and radiant all season long. Ready for Your Own Autumn Skin Reset? If your skin is feeling a little lacklustre after summer, this is your sign to reset. 🍂 Book your own Autumn Skin Reset and let’s get your glow back! I can create a bespoke plan using Dermaviduals prescriptive skincare , Dermalux LED light therapy , a homecare routine that works for you, and even recommend supplements to support your skin from within. Contact me here – I’d love to help you start (or keep travelling) your skin journey this autumn. Leanne x
- Hello! Meet Leanne Moss - Skin Therapist in Ipswich & Founder of SKIN by Leanne Moss
Welcome to SKIN by Leanne Moss, some of you reading this would of known me for many many years! Others have never met me so I thought I'd write this journal to properly introduce myself and my little skin clinic in Ipswich, Suffolk. Many years ago on a bright November remembrance morning I entered the world, the trumpets from the Salvation Army parading through Ipswich town centre greeted me, one parent wanted to call me Poppy the other Leanne, I was the baby of the family with an older sister and brother. For as long as I could remember I wanted to be a primary school teacher but after my A Levels I had a slight wobble and ended up on a beauty therapy course at my local college. I honestly only chose the course because a friend was already doing it and I needed to do something. As luck would have it I loved beauty therapy — it suited me perfectly, I never wanted to sit behind a desk and love to chat! The first half of my career was spent in a busy town centre beauty salon, I was very lucky to have found an employer who put a massive amount of effort into ongoing training. We worked with some of the biggest brand names in the industry and always kept ahead with our education. I always loved the facial training, especially when we started to learn about the science of skin and how the ingredients we were using within the products actually worked. Fast forward to a husband, two small children, many cats and a mad dog called Monty... The time had come to start working for myself. The Little Beauty Room was born in my small spare room at home, with a need to be a mummy who was always there. The first few years I offered all the classic beauty treatments you would expect, but then along came a global pandemic and all beauty salons were closed. I spent 2020 home schooling (turns out I would of made an awful teacher!) and we also spent this time building a beautiful wood cabin in our back garden ready for when I could reopen again. After a few false starts, I was back. I reopened and rebranded — SKIN by Leanne Moss Based in Ipswich, SKIN by Leanne Moss is now my private skin clinic where I offer advanced skin treatments, facials and long-term support for clients looking to really understand their skin. I had always had a passion for skin. I loved learning about how this paper-thin organ worked, how what we did to it affected it, how I could help heal it and make it the healthiest version of itself that it could be. I had worked with a couple of well-known brands with The Little Beauty Room, but now the search was on to find a brand that would elevate me into a results-led skin clinic. I had a real interest in gut health and the gut micro-biome — my mum battled Parkinson's for many years and the link with the gut micro-biome and this illness always intrigued me. Learning about the gut micro-biome led me to learning about the skin micro-biome and suddenly a fire was ignited in me. I found Corneotherapy... I stumbled upon corneotherapy and found a piece of my jigsaw — it just made sense. We repair the skin, we don't rip it off. We don't upset the barrier, we work with mother nature not against her. I could go on, but feel another journal entry should be devoted to this. This science-led approach is at the heart of everything I do in my Suffolk-based skin clinic, especially when treating acne, rosacea and sensitive or compromised skin. Then I discovered Dermaviduals... Finding this unique product brand was like fitting the final piece of my jigsaw into place. We only use skin-identical ingredients and have chucked out the "one size fits all" approach. Our products are prescriptive, meaning that I blend your serums and creams to treat your skin and your individual skin concerns. We can work with you and your skin through every decade of your life, giving you the healthiest skin you’ve ever had. I don't offer Instagram airbrushed skin or hope in a jar — what I do offer is a promise to always be honest about what I can achieve. I love working with more challenging skins like acne, rosacea and pigmentation . Skin isn't an overnight fix — it takes time, patience and consistency — but with me guiding you, we will make a difference. I also work a lot with clients who want to support healthy ageing . Ageing is a privilege not granted to everyone and I can't stop it happening. However, under my guidance, we can enter our older years knowing our skin is the healthiest it can be. Alongside possibly the best products in the world, I also use the best piece of tech… If you're looking for professional LED phototherapy in Ipswich , you're in the right place. Dermalux is the market leader when it comes to LED Phototherapy and I happen to use their most powerful medically certified model — the Tri-Wave MD. The results still amaze me! For a very small garden-based skin clinic, offering this level of device really sets me apart. I started off only two years ago with their entry-level device, the "Flex". I could see the changes in the skin and it really excited me. After less than a year, I upgraded to their mid-range machine, the "Compact Lite", and wow — the results were fabulous. However, I had my sights set on the Tri-Wave MD, and earlier this year, I took delivery of one. I became a (small) skin clinic… Using Dermaviduals and Dermalux , I now treat a wide range of skin concerns in Ipswich — from acne and rosacea to ageing, sensitivity, and pigmentation. If there's anything I can help you with, please do get in touch. We start your skin journey with a full consultation so I can learn all about your unique skin. I’ll work with you for as long as you want me to — I become your skin guru. A little bit more about me… I'm a curly haired scorpion who loves: her family, getting lost in a book, crying over a film, cooking the yummiest food, a cold glass of chardonnay, lots of chocolate, travelling the world, musicals, parties, laughing till it hurts and pottering in my garden. I hate: spiders, choux pastry and arguments. If you're local to Ipswich or Suffolk and looking for a results-driven facial or support for a skin concern, I’d love to meet you. Can’t wait to see you in my little skin clinic, Leanne x
- Understanding the Basics of Corneotherapy: What You Need to Know
You have all heard me mention Corneotherapy but do you really know what it means? Corneotherapy is at the core of SKIN by Leanne Moss, it's what I am and how I work. Corneotherapy is not a new way of looking after your skin, in the 70s, dermatologist Dr. Albert Kligman (co-inventor of Retin-A) discovered during his research that, essentially all skin problems (especially acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis and many other conditions) are an indication of an upset stratum corneum - the outermost layer of the skin AKA the part we can touch, feel and see. They understood and concluded that a healthy outer layer was the absolute key to healthy skin as a whole. Hence their coined term... CORNEO - referring to the stratum corneum, outer most layer of the skin. THERAPY - a healing practice. The outer layer is referred to as the SKIN BARRIER & its job is to protect. The skin barrier is defensive by nature, that's because it has two mission: 1) to control moisture levels and 2) to keep environmental aggressors - microbes, pathogens, UV rays and pollution - at bay. When its mission is compromised, you'll see the very undesired results in your complexion such as redness, dryness, sensitivities, pigmentation, acne and SIGNS OF AGING. The skin is a clever organ and will do everything to protect you, but if any of it's lines of defence are impaired the skin will do everything to make you aware, but as we know the skin can't talk so if it is in trouble it will communicate the only way it can, it will show you. This is it's way of saying "help me, I am not working 100%" It is important to know the skin can be unforgiven and has a long memory, so upsetting the skin at any time in your life may not show straight away and problems can appear months, even years later. Think of your skin barrier like the roof of your house. A strong roof weathers the storm and protects your home from the outside conditions. A leaky roof however will allow the elements in causing damage. Now ask yourself this: if you had a hole in your roof, would you be content with simply sweeping the incoming debris to one side while a bucket collects the rainwater? Or would you set out to repair your roof and protect your home once more? Repairing the outer barrier is, needless to say the solution. Corneotheray will REPAIR, RESTORE & REJUVENATE your skin. If we create a healthy, strong skin barrier by default we have one of the most effective anti-ageing techniques. I believe Corneotherapy is the only way to look after this amazing organ and the results I achieve speak for themselves.
